Folding & Sliding Hook

“Folding & Sliding Hook” has been designed to be user-friendly, allowing users to fold and unfold the hook for use in conjunction with a rail, enabling convenient positioning to their desired location.

Research

Through the interview, the inconveniences and problems faced in storing belongings in public places where people can sit, such as cafes, were discovered, along with the desired solutions.

"I couldn't place my things on the table, so I put them on the chair's backrest, which was uncomfortable."

"I wish there were other places to put my things besides the seat. I want my belongings to be stored safely without falling on the floor."

"There was no storage nearby, so I had to place the items I needed on the floor beside me, inside my bag, to reach them easily."

"It would be nice to have bag hooks like those in school desks."

"I had to put my bag on the floor because there wasn't enough space, and it got dirty from dust or moisture."

"I would like to have a storage compartment for my bag."

"In the case of chairs like sofas, placing my bag or coat next to my seat could be a nuisance for guests at the adjacent table."

"It would be great to have a solution for situations where there are two or more people."

Problem

"It was inconvenient that most places did not have space to store personal belongings!"

Needs

“I want to be able to store my belongings easily!"

Ideation Sketch

Through the interview, it was discovered that the user desired a hook. A design was sketched to surpass existing rings and provide enhanced convenience.

Trail

The hook can be inserted into the trail, moved to the desired position, and used accordingly.

Hook

The hook can be stored in an upward folded position and lowered for use only when needed.

User Testing

A prototype was created using a 3D printer, and user testing was conducted. Through this test, areas for improvement were identified, and the necessary features were finalized.

To facilitate user testing, various sizes and designs of hooks were created using a 3D printer.

Participants typically carried backpacks, handbags, and shopping bags containing items such as laptops, cosmetics, and mobile phones. The tests were conducted using each participant's own bags.

  • The hook should be longer to make it easier to hang bags.

User Feedback

  • The sliding and folding idea is excellent.

  • The hook needs to withstand heavy weights.

  • The width of the hook is appropriate.
